The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, David Songulashvili, held a working meeting with representatives of greenhouse enterprises, where the parties discussed key priorities for developing the sector, planned state programmes, and measures to strengthen domestic production.
"Developing greenhouse farming is one of our priority areas. It is essential, on the one hand, to strengthen local production and reduce import dependence, and on the other hand, to enhance export potential. This process requires the adoption of modern technologies, improved production efficiency, and the development of storage and logistics infrastructure, all of which will significantly increase the competitiveness of local products. Moreover, the Rural Development Agency is actively advancing work in this direction, with relevant programmes set to be launched on July 1, 2026, alongside additional support measures, if required", - said David Songulashvili.
During the meeting, the representatives of the sector presented the key challenges facing the industry. Discussions focused on product sales and marketing challenges, opportunities for direct cooperation with major retail chains, the optimization of supply chains, and the importance of improving access to storage and cold-chain infrastructure. The parties also discussed investment attraction and initiatives to support the development of local production, placing particular emphasis on reducing import dependence.
The meeting was held in the format of a sectoral council, providing regular engagement with industry representatives, including quarterly meetings chaired by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and monthly meetings chaired by the Deputy Minister. As part of the council meeting, the parties discussed key sectoral issues and identified potential solutions.
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Lasha Dolidze; the Director of the Rural Development Agency, Zurab Gozalishvili; the Head of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, Levan Ujmajuridze; the Head of the National Food Agency, Giorgi Iakobashvili; as well as representatives of relevant agencies and departments within the Ministry, attended the meeting.
