Georgia is proud of its 20 000 successful seafarers, who annually contribute nearly GEL 1 billion to country’s economy - Kobakhidze

Georgia has a clear and ambitious goal to become a powerful maritime nation, where modern infrastructure, competitive ports, and highly skilled professionals form a single, seamlessly functioning system. Such a statement the Prime Minister of Georgia made at an event celebrating Day of the Seafarer.

"International Day of the Seafarer is far more than a simple professional milestone.

It offers the perfect opportunity to express our gratitude to Georgian seafarers for their hard work, to review our current achievements, and to jointly map out our future steps. Georgia has a clear and ambitious vision to establish itself as a leading maritime nation, integrating modern infrastructure, competitive ports, and world-class professionals into a single, seamless system.

Education plays a pivotal role in achieving this objective. This is precisely why more than 30 million GEL has been dedicated to strengthening and modernising maritime education over recent years.

Upgrading our training environments to meet modern standards is a direct investment in our youth, the generation destined to shape Georgia`s maritime future and represent our country with even greater dignity within the international fleet.

Georgia today takes immense pride in its workforce of more than 20,000 successful seafarers.

Their annual contribution to strengthening our economy, even by the most conservative estimates, is close to one billion GEL. It is our duty to create the conditions necessary to ensure these figures continue to grow, achieve even greater progress, and secure Georgia’s position more firmly on the global maritime map. I congratulate you on International Day of the Seafarer. I heartily thank everyone for your vital contribution to the development of the Georgian state. I wish you continued success and fair winds", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
