In January-August 2026 the external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to USD 17 926.9 million, 8.4% higher year-on-year, reads the report of GeoStat.

The exports equaled 5 422.5 million (22.1% higher), while the imports stood at USD 12 504.4 million (3.4% higher). The negative trade balance was USD 7 081.8 million in January-August 2026 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 39.5%.

In January-August 2026 the share of the top-10 trading partners by exports in the total exports of Georgia amounted to 68.8%. The top partners were Kyrgyzstan (USD 577.6 million), China (USD 543.7 million) and Russia (USD 500.7 million).

In January-August 2026 the share of the top-10 trading partners by imports in the total imports of Georgia amounted to 70.2%. The top partners were Türkiye (USD 1 918.6 million), Russia (USD 1 531.8 million) and USA (USD 1 510.5 million).

In January-August 2026 the share of the top ten trading partners in the total external trade turnover of Georgia amounted to 65.7%. The top trading partners were Türkiye (USD 2 247.5 million), China (USD 2 042.8 million) and Russia (USD 2 032.5 million).

In January-August 2026 motor cars claimed the first place in the list of top export items, equaling USD 1 347.7 million with 24.9% of total exports. The exports of petroleum and petroleum oils totaled USD 688.9 million and their share in the total exports amounted to 12.7%. The exports of precious metal ores and concentrates occupied the third place standing at USD 403.1 million and constituting 7.4% of the total exports.

The top import commodities in January-August 2026 were motor cars, whose imports equaled USD 2 364.3 million (18.9% of the total imports). The petroleum and petroleum oils followed in the list with USD 1 164.7 million (9.3% of imports). The Medicaments put up in measured doses were third in the top import commodity list with USD 468.4 million (3.7% of imports).
