The Fifth International Conference on Competition and Consumer Protection will take place in Tbilisi on 19-20 November 2026. The conference is jointly organised by the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency, the National Bank of Georgia, the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC), the Insurance State Supervision Service of Georgia and the Georgian National Communications Commission.

The annual conference aims to further strengthen competition policy in Georgia, to promote constructive dialogue on the achievements and challenges in this field, and to improve consumer protection mechanisms through the sharing of international and local best practices.

The conference will convene national delegates and international delegates from up to 20 countries, experts in competition and consumer protection, and representatives of relevant authorities and international organisations. The honorary speaker will be Teresa Moreira, an international competition expert and former Head of the Competition and Consumer Policies Branch of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The panel discussions will address topical issues in competition and consumer protection, including the global transformation of consumer protection and modern regulatory approaches; competition and access in essential markets, notably the pharmaceutical and food sectors; merger control in a dynamic economy; consumer protection in online markets; the interplay between competition law and sectoral regulation; and the balance between competition, trade and industrial policy in the context of global economic transformation.

The conference marks the thirtieth anniversary of competition and consumer protection policy in Georgia. The law adopted in 1996 laid the foundation for the development of legal protection mechanisms in this field and led to the establishment of the first antimonopoly service. This anniversary lends the conference added significance and offers an opportunity to take stock of the progress achieved and to define priorities for further strengthening consumer protection.

The 2025 event hosted over 350 delegates, more than 50 national and international speakers, and upwards of 40 representatives of competition and consumer protection authorities from 18 countries. Participants included members of the Government and Parliament of Georgia, as well as representatives of public institutions, regulatory bodies, academia and the business community.
