The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office has charged two individuals in Kakheti with attempting to fraudulently deliver low-sugar grapes by a group using forged documents in a pre-arranged manner.

The investigation conducted by the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance established that the accused, in a group, with the aim of fraudulently appropriating money belonging to the state by prior agreement, obtained false information about the origin of Rkatsiteli grape variety and attempted to deliver 20,600 kilograms of low-sugar grapes to a wine factory located in the village of Chandari, Gurjaani Municipality.

They were unable to do so due to the timely operational-search measures and investigative actions carried out by the employees of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance.

The defendants were charged under Article 19-180, Part 2, Subparagraph "a" (attempted fraud by a group with prior agreement) and Article 362, Part 1 (purchase and use of a false official document) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for up to seven years of imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.

The Prosecutor`s Office shall apply to the court within the time limit established by law with a request for the use of a preventive measure against the accused.
