Georgia is the only EU candidate and regional nation to achieve US State Department’s top Tier Ranking in anti-trafficking fight - Justice Ministry

On October 8, 2026, the US Department of State published its 26th annual Trafficking in Persons report, according to which Georgia remains at the highest level due to its measures implemented against trafficking in persons (human trafficking) and has maintained its place in the so-called Tier 1 among 184 countries worldwide for the 11th consecutive year. The relevant information was released by the Ministry of Justice of Georgia.

According to the agency, only 33 countries secured a place in the highest evaluation tier this year.

"Georgia is the only country in the region and among the EU candidate states to hold the highest ranking in the US Department of State`s assessment. It is noteworthy that 13 member states of the European Union itself failed to make it into the highest Tier 1.

According to the US Department of State report, Georgia continued significant and sustained efforts against the crime, which led to the country`s highest evaluation.

The US Department of State report highlights the effective steps taken toward the proactive detection and investigation of the crime of trafficking in persons (human trafficking), protection and assistance mechanisms for victims and survivors, including the compensation of damages inflicted as a result of the crime.

Georgia attaches significant importance to the fight against trafficking in persons (human trafficking), which is also an important part of Georgia`s integration process into the European Union and creates a safe and reliable environment in the country and the region in terms of combating transnational organized crime.

Georgia`s leading position in the US Department of State report and the progress achieved during the reporting period are the result of the effective work of the Interagency Coordinating Council Implementing Measures Against Trafficking in Persons (Human Trafficking).

The Council is chaired by the Minister of Justice of Georgia and includes representatives from all relevant state agencies, the Public Defender’s Office, and partner organizations", - says the Ministry of Justice.
