"This has not happened since the 1990s. This will be the first time in Georgia that we will purchase electric locomotives. It is also planned to purchase 10 modern passenger trains and in total, we plan to purchase 2,000 freight wagons. 200 wagons have already been purchased, an example of which we see here.

An additional 200 freight wagons will arrive in Georgia in the coming months. When we talk about optimization, it is very important that the wagons were purchased by the Georgian Railways directly from the manufacturer Karkali. This was a direct initiative of Mr. Lasha [Abashidze] and serious work was required for all this. We purchased these wagons without intermediaries, which reduced the relevant costs by approximately 22%. In total, the savings on 400 wagons will be approximately 6 million dollars. This is the amount that will be reinvested in the development of the railway again and again", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
