One person detained for obtaining loans through pensioners’ mobile banking applications - the accused unlawfully seized a total of GEL 43,792

Employees of Kutaisi Police Division of Imereti Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs have arrested one person on charges of computer data tampering for financial gain.

The investigation established that the accused person had promised pensioners a monthly 200-GEL allowance, after which he secretly obtained their personal data and activated loans using banking applications on their mobile phones. The accused person illegally acquired a total of 43,792 GEL through this criminal act.

The police arrested the perpetrator in Tbilisi based on a judge's ruling.

The investigation is underway under Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, envisioning the imprisonment for up to 10 years.
