The 47th World Congress of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine was held in Yinchuan, China.
Chairman of the National Wine Agency Levan Mekhuzla participated in the work of Congress and the 24th General Assembly of the OIV, which was held alongside the Congress.
The main theme of the Congress was the development of new models for the global viticulture and winemaking sector, adaptation to challenges, the introduction of innovations, and ensuring sustainable development. The Congress was attended by approximately 600 participants from 47 countries.
In his address to the Congress, the Chairman of the National Wine Agency spoke about the importance of holding the OIV Congress in Georgia in 2027.
In 2025, Georgia officially submitted its application to host the OIV Congress in 2027 and received the organisation’s full support.
"The OIV is the most important organisation in the viticulture and winemaking sector. Hosting the Congress will once again highlight Georgia`s role in the 8,000-year history of the development of viticulture and winemaking worldwide and in the modern wine industry. Holding this major event of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine in Georgia will further promote Georgian wine and demonstrate the progress of quality-oriented reforms in our country", - said Levan Mekhuzla.
It should be noted that Georgia has twice hosted international OIV events: the 33rd International Congress in 1962 and the 8th General Assembly of the OIV in 2010.
The OIV is an international intergovernmental organisation with 51 member countries, including Georgia. Its activities include formulating recommendations on wine production and winemaking practices, viticulture, and grape processing for the food industry in member countries, as well as assisting other international intergovernmental organisations, developing and maintaining international standards in the wine sector.
