Police did not have coherent plan to ensure safety effectively - non-governmental organizations assess developments in Batumi

Controversy in Batumi - NGOs issue a joint statement. Young Lawyers" Association, Transparency International - Georgia and Fair Elections condemn the violence that occurred and call on the government to conduct a rapid, thorough and impartial investigation of the facts.

As a special statement says, it should be determined what has triggered the public outcry. The law enforcement agencies should impartially determine whether the events were orchestrated.

They also call upon the political parties to take particular responsibility for their actions, refrain from confrontation and direct or indirect encouragement of violence.

The Human Rights Center focuses on the gaps in the work of police.

"It was obvious that political groups or organized groups were trying to escalate the situation and it is important that the use of force by state was not disproportionate . The activities of the Interior Ministry demonstarted that the police did not have a coherent plan to ensure safety effectively , "- said the Human Rights Education and Monitoring Centre lawyer, Tamta Mikeladze.
