In connection with attack of the militants on the city of Mariupol , the EU plans to convene  extraordinary meetings of the EU Foreign Affairs Council and the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs on the initiative of the EU High Representative, Federica Mogherini.

As for the meeting, it will be held on January 29. Federica Mogherini personally informed about it Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. German Chancellor Angela Merkel had a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin and demanded to avoid further escalation of the conflict.
