24 years have passed since the fall of Sokhumi. On September 27, 1993, Abkhazian separatists took the city after the 11-day attack. The war ended with the fall of Sokhumi.

Thousands of Georgian citizens have been killed in the bloody confrontation. More than 250,000 people have been displaced.

Their comrades, relatives, and politicians gathered at the Heros" Square in front of the Memorial of Heroes to commemorate the tragic date and honor warriors who died in the war.

The President of Georgia laid flowers at the memorial this morning.

Giorgi Margvelashvili will hand over the Order of the National Hero to the family of Guram Gabiskiriia.

Guram Gabiskiria was the mayor of Sokhumi and he sacrificed himself to fight for Georgia"s territorial integrity on September 27.

Members of the Cabinet of Ministers are at the Hero Square as well.

According to them, after 24 years, the government should do everything to restore the territorial integrity only through peaceful means.

Members of the Parliamentary and Non-Parliamentary Opposition laid a wreath on the memorial of the heroes as well.
