"I do not want  an authoritative institution like Ombudsman Institute to  become an office for justifying criminals,"- the Interior Minister said in response to the Public Defender`s ststetment regarding physical abuse of detained Sergo Mamasakhlisi in the police department.

Because of the statement of Ucha Nanuashvili, Giorgi Mgebrishvili criticized the ombudsman. According to the Interior Minister, the Public Defender could find out everything in the Ministry.

"I am always surprised by the attitude of the ombudsman. He could verify this information with us and would have received an absolutely exhaustive response. We need more observation and caution when we make any statements regarding police officers, "= said Giorgi Mgebrishvili.

Sergo Mamasakhlisi was detained for robbery five days ago. According to the Ombudsman, the defendant was initially beaten up in the head and then a plastic bag was placed on his head so that could not breathe. The bag was removed only after he agreed to sign a confession.

Representative of the Public Defender visited Sergo Mamasakhlis in the penitentiary establishment No.8. The detainee informed the Ombudsman about the violence carried out against him.
