The third sector responds to the statement of the Prosecutor"s Office on the death of the man during the detention

The NGOs respond to the statement of the Prosecutor"s Office regarding the incident on Nutsubidze slope. It is about the death of a young man during his detention by patrol-police.

As reported by Georgia’s Prosecutor’s Office, the footage seized from Georgia’s Interior Ministry clarifies that patrol inspector’s shoulder cameras did not reflect the incident and detention process on October 25 at Nutsubidze Street.

According to the statement, Georgia’s Prosecutor’s Office intensively continues investigation and details will be informed to the public.

After exploring the footages seized from the Interior Ministry it becomes clear that the shoulder camera of one of the inspectors has not recorded the incident as well as the process of detention. The footage only shows the period after the person was detained under the administrative rule. The patrol inspector himself declared that he was recording the conversation with the conflict parties G.K and N.Sh., afterwards he turned the shoulder camera off and turned it on only after P.P. was detained under the administrative rule and felt bad.
The third sector says that this fact raises more questions.

According to Levan Vepkhvadze, member of the Georgian Young Lawyers" Association., the state should answer these questions, but not in the way that the prosecutor"s office did.

"Article 42 of the Constitution" states that even with the existing footage , it is possible to determine important circumstances of the case.

According to Sopho Verdzeuli, Director of the Institutional Reform Program of Human Rights Education and Monitoring Center, it was revealed that the destruction of evidence roo place which is a serious crime.

The incident happened on Nutsubidze slope 4 days ago. Paata Pavliashvili, 31, died when the patrol-inspector tried to arrest him.
