People"s Protest in Svaneti - Locals are protesting against the construction of a giant hydropower plant.

Mestia residents are convinced that construction of HPP threatens villages and cultural heritage. They say that they will not take back and will not allow the private company to build a power plant and harm the local nature.

The residents of Svaneti gathered at the company "Energy C" office today. The locals` demand is unchanged, the HPP construction should be suspended. People have addressed local and central government today.

The locals claimed they had been deceived because according to the original version, the HPP was to be much smaller. As a result of the works connected to the new project, several touristic attractions have already been destroyed. Foreign tourists joined the protest today.
