The Public Defender addresses the Ministry of Culture with the recommendations in connection with Tanoianc Church.
The Ombudsman calls upon the relevant authorities to invalidate the decision
to transfer Tanoianc Church to Patriarchate of Georgia and suspend the works on the monument.

"Photos taken at the end of March 2018 demonstrate that a certain part of the construction of a religious building has been demolished which damages its cultural value.

The fact that the Ministry did not immediately suspend the ongoing work on the monument is assessed negatively.

The Public Defender has addressed the relevant authorities with the recommendation to annul the decision on the transfer and has demanded immediate suspension of the works on the monument, "- reads the ombudsman"s statement.

Non-governmental organizations urge state agencies to share recommendations of the Public Defender.
