The president responds to the resignation of Nini Gvenetadze, the chairperson of the Supreme Court. Giorgi Margvelashvili spoke about Gvenetadze"s resignation at the special briefing.

The President says that it is important that Nino Gvenetadze"s decision was precede by a numbr of events, including the statements of non-judge members of the Council of Justice regarding the difficult situation in the court.

The President recalled the statements when Nino Gvenetadze said she was a victim of pressure.

"Nino Gvenetadze"s statement is noteworthy when the first judge of the country says she is a victim of violence. I wish that this resignation is not as hollow as many important political events in our lives. The challenge of improving the judiciary system and the qualitative change of the existing situation is an important challenge to our democracy. The challenge we will either answer or will remain on the vicious circle that has created serious problems for our country"s citizens and the state system, "the president said.

According to Giorgi Margvelashvili, he will start consultations with every person who can help in the selection of the new chairman of the Supreme Court of the State. The President calls on lawyers, academics to engage in the process.

The president urges all parties to put aside their political views and take care of strengthening state institutions.
