NGOs call on the President to nominate a candidate for position of chairman of Supreme Court

Non-governmental organizations urge the President of Georgia not to abstain from his constitutional obligation and nominate the candidacy of the Chairman of the Supreme Court.

As it is known Giorgi Margvelashvili is not going to nominate a candidate. He said about it a few days ago.

The president assumed that the Georgian Dream would not support the person nominated by him. In this case, the new chairman of the Supreme Court should be selected by the Council of Justice, which is a special threat to the representatives of NGOs.

"The responsibility lies with the Georgian Dream because they were not constructive in this format and they said they would not be involved in consultations. But it is the President"s responsibility as well because only he is authorized to present a candidate, "said Oliko Shermadini, a lawyer for international transparency.

The Liberal Academy calls on the President to fulfil his duties as well.
