The civil sector is demanding the timely investigation of the attack on the Rustavi 2 crew. NGOs call this incident concerning and blame the authorities for encouraging violence against Rustavi 2.
"Media activities should be ensured in the state. Authorities should act within the law and their verbal attacks, insults on media may encourage cases of violence or illegal action against journalists, "said Mamuka Andghuladze, the program manager of Transparency International Georgia.
The civil sector calls on the government to refuse to make aggressive statements against the TV company and have adequate response to violence against journalist Eka Gagua and cameraman Levan Kalandia.
"Journalists covering problems, investigating problems will be under constant threat, the government is conducting a permanent campaign against Rustavi 2, which can further encourage attack on Rustavi 2 and attacks on Rustavi 2 journalists" - says Nino Jangirashvili, General Director of Kavkasia TV.
Giorgi Mshvenieradze, chairman of the "Democratic Initiative of Georgia", said that from the video footage, there appears to be the attempted violence and destruction of items. The third sector calls on the authorities to timely react and carry out objective investigation.
