After the 40-day hunger strike, 32-year-old Giorgi Paseishvili, a prisoner of Gldani prison, has died.
The prisoner applied to the extreme form of protest. He was accused of wounding his neighbour by the investigation. He considered himself innocent and demanded to review the case.
The prisoner did not take medicines in protest.His condition was especially hard yesterday. Giorgi Paseishvili died in several hours after he was taken to Gudushauri clinic.
The fact that the prisoner died due to hunger strike is confirmed in the penitentiary service. Today, they did not answer Courier"s questions and in a written statement they argued that all agencies were informed about the hunger strike of the prisoner in protest.One of the first whom the prison administrator should inform about the hunger strike is the Public Defender. After verifying the data, this content could not be found in the ombudsman"s office.
Representatives of Nino Lomjaria checked the documentation of prison records today, however, there is no indication that the prisoner was on hunger strike in protest.Why the prison administration hid the information about the hunger strike announced by the prisoner, will be established by the representatives of the Public Defender . The Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation under Article 116 of the Criminal Code of Georgia .
