Holy Synod could not agree on the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church

The Holy Synod did not agree on the issue of autocephaly of the Church of Ukraine - the opinion of the 46 bishops was divided into two.

Based on a source Courier reports that a part of the clergy was openly supporting the separation of the Ukrainian Church from Russia, but the Patriarchate decided to postpone this process and wait for the developments. Despite this position, the two bishops openly expressed anti-Russian and pro-Ukrainian position.

The World Patriarch will issue a resolution on the recognition of the Ukrainian Church on January 6.
On the eve of Christmas, the Patriarchate of Georgia will face the necessity to make a choice- to recognize the Ukrainian Church or recognize the influence of the Russian Church on Ukraine.

Theologians say that there are forces in the Patriarchate that are under influence of the Russian Church.

By the end of the Holy Synod session, the bishops discussed an issue of the Cyanide Case as well. The issue was raised by the Archbishop Petre. He demanded Synod to fulfill its ruling, which reads that the Patriarchate would return to consideration of Giorgi Mamaladze"s case after the decision of the last instance of the Court.
