Romania takes over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union . The ceremony took place at the Romanian Athenaeum. Many Romanian and European officials were present at the ceremony,Including the Presidents of the European Parliament, the Presidents of the European Commission and the Chairman of the European Council. Donald Tusk has delivered a speech.

Romania became a member of the EU in 2007. The country will have a status for six months.
