Members of the Venice Commission who are visiting Georgia met with the heads of NGOs to discuss legal problems. Representatives of the civil sector informed the Commission members on the Crisis in the Council of Justice. Discussion also focused on the issue of composition of the Supreme Court and the importance of its transparency.
"The Venice Commission, on the basis of our information and work, wrote in the conclusion that criticism and dissatisfaction towards the Council of Justice is necessary and it is necessary to comply with the reform. This sentence was carefully forgotten by the "Georgian Dream" and they did nothing to change the regulatory legislation of the Council to change the rule of selection, "said the lawyer Ana Natsvlishvili.
The Venice Commission members held a meeting with the members of the Bar Association and its Chairman.
According to Davit Asatiani, the Venice Commission will take into consideration the reality in the Georgian judicial system while elaborating recommendations on the draft law for selection of judges.
