Turkish vessel polluted Georgian territorial waters

A ship sailing under the Turkish flag polluted Georgia"s territorial waters near the port of Poti.

According to the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, their employees along with the Border Police officers detected the fact of pollution of Georgian territorial waters and the vessel sailing under the Turkish flag is detained for illegally dumping farm-fecal waste into the Poti Sea Port. The ship polluted the Georgian territorial waters by dumping farm-fecal waste.

The Poti City Court fined the captain of the ship GEL 65,000 and imposed additional fine in the amount of GEL 5 306.40 for the damage caused to the environment. The ship will leave Georgia"s territorial waters ones the fine is paid.
