Sandro Bregadze, the leader of Georgian March, has announced that he, along with his supporters, will hold a demonstration against the premiere of the film “And Then We Danced”. The rally starts at 16:00 today.

According to them the movie undermines Georgian traditions and values.

Bregadze said that Georgian March members and supporters will gather outside the Tbilisi Concert Hall to peacefully protest the premiere of the movie, scheduled at the Amirani Cinema, adding that the activists intend to create a “human chain” at the entrance of the cinema, make a “corridor of shame” and prevent spectators from attending the screening of the film.

"At 4 o’clock a protest will be launched against gay propaganda. We assure the Georgian population that the film will not be screened. We will act absolutely peacefully", - he added.

Bregadze underlined that the members and supporters of the “Georgian March” are against the “gay propaganda” and not against the people of a different sexual orientation.

The premiere of the 2019 Swedish-Georgian drama film - And Then We Danced, directed by Levan Akin, is scheduled to be held at Tbilisi and Batumi cinemas today.

Georgian Orthodox Patriarchate considers the film to be unacceptable but claims that it dissociate itself from violence.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia released a statement regarding the screening of the film. MIA argues to ensure the protection of public safety and law, as well as, the freedom of expression that does not go beyond the law.

The Public Defender of Georgia called on MIA to take proactive preventive measures: “It is important that law enforcement agencies ensure the safety of both the LGBT+ community and the guests of the premiere”.
