It is still unknown at what stage are negotiations in order to release Vazha Gaprindashvili, a doctor detained by the Tskhinvali occupation regime.

The family of the detained doctor has lodged a letter with the Foreign Ministry. The want the UN Secretary General to appoint a special commissioner to solve the problem.

“We urge the UN Secretary-General to urgently send a special UN commissioner to Georgia and use all available resources immediately to release a physician illegally captured by the occupants”, - reads the letter.

According to family members, the Red Cross was unable to reach the doctor today and deliver the parcel, because today there is a holiday in the occupied Tskhinvali.

Family members added that they do not have further information about the doctor’s condition and urge the authorities to try their best to speed up the process of his release.
