Troubled borders, Georgia "stuck" in formats, pardon scandal – Zourabichvili’s statements still cause a criticism

The statements made by the President of Georgia have again been criticized. Salome Zourabichvili talked about the issue of defining Georgia’s borders on the Georgian Public Broadcaster and said that the country had problems not only with respect to the borders of the occupied territories, but also with Armenia and Azerbaijan.

She has focused on the unconcerted borders with Azerbaijan and Armenia.

“Special commissions were working in this area, they reached a certain point, however, the process terminated. It is incomprehensible why we should not conclude this process among our neighbouring countries. As the presidents of these countries stated, the commissions should resume working in this area, which, in fact, is happening now, and it has paramount importance. I am expecting tangible results from this process. Having full-fledged statehood requires the borders that should be defined first, and then protected”, - said Zourabichvili.

With regard to Vazha Gaprindashvili, the President said that it is obvious that technical formats have no result.

“Regarding the case of Vazha Gaprindahsili, we witness the technical formats have no result. It is obvious the bureaucrats cannot make political decisions that we expect.

Georgia is stuck in this ongoing technical format without any result. We have been working to put back the format of Geneva International Discussions in its initial political nature.

Regarding Russia and its conflicts, we are working with international associations to be mentioned in all direction. For instance, days prior to the Normandy Format talks, I reminded the president of France to discuss the case of Georgia, our conflict and the occupied territories”, - said Zourabichvili.

She also commented on the pardon scandal, noting that the President does not pardon angels and innocents.
