The Russian controlled occupation forces are conducting a census in the occupied Akhalgori district.
According to the Democracy Research Institute, people dressed in military uniform, allegedly the employees of the Russian security agency, are conducting the census in the district which was occupied by Russia during the Russia-Georgia 2008 war.
The NGO also says that Russians brought food supplies into the district. However, locals do not know whether the food “is only for those with South Ossetian passports or for everyone”.
Locals also do not know the reason the census is being conducted, the the Democracy Research Institute says.
“The 200 military are interviewing every citizen there, the purpose of this survey is unknown. In our opinion, this process is quite unclear, though it is not likely to be for humanitarian aid. Accordingly, the occupants need an accurate number of people who are currently in Akhalgori”, - said the head of the NGO Ucha Nanuashvili.
