The President of Georgia has held a phone conversation with the Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres. Salome Zourabichvili summed up the conversation in a tweet.
”Great challenges require common innovative responses. Had the chance to discuss with Antonio Guterres on international solidarity in response to the crisis, the need for the SG’s appeal for global ceasefire to include steps toward de-escalation, and equitable access to the vaccine”, - tweeted the President.
The UN secretary-general congratulated Georgia twice during the call on the country’s effective measures throughout the pandemic. The Georgian President welcomed the UN resolution that was adopted on an “equitable, efficient and timely” access to any future vaccine developed against coronavirus.
Zourabichvili also called on Guterres appeal to a global ceasefire to include steps toward de-escalation as well, and not just acts to stop the fire.
