29 years have passed since the founding of the Georgian army. The National Guard was established in December 1990 by the ordinance of the Supreme Council, and the order for compulsory military conscription was issued by way of the decree of 24 April 1991. Conscription officially began on 30 April, and this is where the history of the modern Georgian army begins.
