Grave crime was averted in the country – Giorgi Gakharia on Giorgi Gabunia’s case

The gravest crime was averted in the country. Such a statement made the Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia said in Free Vision Program of Georgian First Channel,, while commenting the case of Giorgi Gabunia.

“The primary duty of every member of the Government and the law enforcement system is to investigate the crime against our citizen and especially a well-known journalist.

Correspondingly, the information should be provided to our citizens openly and transparently especially when we all know well that not only grave crimes but simple cases may follow political speculations and political resonance. We are in political process and political temperature rises. Everybody will try to use the issue for narrow political interests.

We all understand that against this backdrop, when political temperatures are rising because of upcoming elections, everyone will attempt to make use of this case and pursue their political interests. This is a fact, and each of our words, actions, or comments may prevent the investigation from running smoothly. We should maintain our composure and let law enforcement officers do their job as well and as soon as possible. Only then will we have the opportunity to freely express our opinions on this issue”, - concluded the Head of the Government.
