The Majority Leader, PACE Vice-Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze and the member of the Parliamentary Delegation, Givi Mikanadze held the meeting with the Human Rights Commissioner, Dunja Mijatovic to discuss the general human rights state in Georgia and upheld and scheduled reforms in the country.
According to Mikanadze, the human rights state in Georgia was positively assessed. Georgian MPs introduced the newest plans of the Human Rights and Civil Integration, and the Legal Issues Committees in human rights terms and dwelt on the activities scheduled by the Legal Issues Committee for further reforming of the penitentiary system. The activities are assigned to the working group by civic engagement.
“At the meeting, we also noted that the “Georgian Dream” during the 9th Term in the Parliament set up the special platform to hold the public discussions of the recommendations reflected in the annual report of the Public Defender in the Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee. The high officials of the Ministries under the Parliamentary oversight introduce their reports concerning the fulfillment of the PD recommendations”, - added Givi Mikanadze.
