The Parliament will take into account the recommendations of the Venice Commission - Shalva Papuashvili

The draft laws on which the Venice Commission issued a joint opinion will not be withdrawn by the Parliament, both projects will be changed in such a way that the Venice recommendations are reflected in them. Such a statement made today the member of the parliamentary majority, Shalva Papuashvili.

“In none of the projects did the Venice Commission have questions in terms of legitimacy and legality, and their concern was that the law would not be adjusted to the current situation.

In connection with the project, which concerns the involvement of a foreign citizen in the pre-election campaign, the Venice Commission had recommended not to deregister the party in the first instance, but, for example, a financial sanction to be imposed on it.

In this regard, the Venice Commission said that from a legal point of view and in terms of the legitimacy, there is no question. They were worried and said during the oral hearing that due to the current situation in Georgia the law should not be instrumentalized and used against these parties, this was a remark.

The second remark was whether it is too strict to deregister the party in the first instance. We have read the recommendations in this regard and based on these recommendations we will continue to work on this project.

The report also states that there may be tougher sanctions against the organization or party, for example, financial sanctions may be tightened, so we will continue to work on this project and take into account the recommendations of the Venice Commission”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
