Shalva Papuashvili, a member of the parliamentary majority, once again calls on opposition parties to enter the Parliament.
“A few days ago, a constitutional amendment was signed, fulfilling the last condition of the memorandum signed between the Georgian Dream and the Citizens, which was later joined by European Socialists. This memorandum has already initiated a large package of electoral reform.
This change is in two directions: 1. It will affect the lowering of the election threshold. 2 Strengthen the role of the opposition in Parliament. This concerns the fact that in order to form a parliamentary faction the consent of 4 deputies will be enough, instead of 7. Both of these changes require a change in the Constitution, in particular, in its transitional provisions. Amendment to the Constitution requires 113 votes, 3/4, for it to take effect immediately. Today, 96 deputies are actively exercising their mandate in the Parliament.
Therefore, it requires at least 17 deputies to active the mandate. I want to call on our opponents to think about their homeland, their own voters, the voters of other parties, including the Georgian Dream and the Citizens, and based on this responsibility, make the right decision and enter parliament!”, - said MP from the Georgian Dream.
