We reserve the right not to waste time discussing these whims and to be fully focused on the real problems that are bothering our people. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia, while commenting the negotiations between the ruling party and the opposition.
“Despite failure to reach an agreement, there are several solid conclusions we can draw from this process. The document proposed by Christian Danielsson does not even hint at snap elections, which only makes sense, because the overwhelming majority of the Georgian people, the Western community in its entirety, and the whole world for that matter recognize the 2020 parliamentary elections and their results. Consequently, there are no questions whatsoever concerning the legitimacy of the results. However, as we can see, the opposition, unlike the entire civilized community, are not even trying to break the deadlock they have entrapped themselves in thanks to their baffling calculations. Now we also see that they have not been courageous and reasonable enough to give up their totally unfounded claims and to sign the document.
Now that this situation is clear to all, we retain the right to waste no time on the opposition’s antics, instead focusing fully on the issue concerning the population and the country. We have far-reaching large-scale projects to present in the next few weeks, including in the areas of agriculture, infrastructure, and economy. Thus, we cannot afford wasting time on these meaningless, totally unproductive negotiations. Once again, I want to clarify for the population that every issue in the document proposed by the mediator has been reciprocated by us with constructive positions, those involving compromises, designed to take steps toward the country’s better future. Our team has made an all-out effort to reach an agreement, but the radical opposition had no intention of doing the same. They requested from the mediator to add points to the document, focusing on subverting the negotiations-a fact confirmed by some relatively moderate representatives of the opposition, by the way.
I believe that it is now clear to all that this so-called crisis, artificially created and intended to pass off as a major problem, is in reality nothing but a deep crisis for the opposition themselves. We are thankful to our friends, EU institutions, and Mister Charles Michel and Mister Christian Danielsson for their personal herculean efforts. And although no final agreement has been reached, this process has been very important to all. I believe that now Europe has a better understanding of our situation, and the Georgian people are well aware of the interests driving one side or the other, a genuinely beneficial experience for us”, - said Irakli Garibashvili.
