No agreement was reached between the Georgian Dream and the opposition on the amnesty project prepared for the events of June 19-20.
The opposition discussed the issue with the Chairman of the Parliament, but their meeting ended without any agreement.
As Badri Japaridze, chairman of the Lelo - Partnership for Georgia faction, said, the ruling party will submit its bill, which is unlikely to gain opposition support.
“We could not agree on our bill, which is in full accordance with the agreement reached through the mediation of Charles Michel. According to our bill, the amnesty should be extended to 2 articles. According to the Georgian Dream, the amnesty should be extended to articles pertaining to crimes that are not being prosecuted today, but may be prosecuted in the future.
Besides, our bill requires victims’ consent to extend the amnesty to those prosecuted. There is no such a requirement in the ruling team bill. According to our bill, the consent of the amnestied person is not required to be granted amnesty, while the Georgian Dream bill includes such a requirement and the person must confirm in writing that he/she does not refuse the amnesty”, - explained Badri Japaridze.
