Philip Reeker meets with representatives of the opposition

Acting US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Reeker met with the Georgian parliamentary opposition - the United National Movement, Lelo, Strategy Aghmashenebeli, Republican Party as well as independent MPs.

As Nika Melia, the Chairman of the UNM said, they talked about the “increasing” Russian influence “both within the country and in the region”, implementation of the EU-brokered April 19 agreement Georgia’s integration into the West, etc.

Independent MP Davit Bakradze added that the opposition leaders talked about the judiciary and electoral reforms, media freedom and alleged political persecution.

After sitting down with the opposition leaders, the Acting Assistant Secretary concluded his first stop in Tbilisi, to continue his trip to Baku and Yerevan.
