Constitutional amendments have been initiated in the Parliament. The draft has already been submitted to the relevant service of the legislature with the signatures of 91 deputies. The project is signed by the representatives of “Citizens”, “Girchi”, “Strategy Aghmashenebeli” and “Lelo” together with the members of the ruling party.
According to the draft amendments, the electoral threshold for the next two parliamentary elections will be 2%. The rule of proportional distribution of mandates is also established. The number of members to form parliamentary factions is reduced from 7 to 4.
Under the same bill, the next attorney generals will be elected by a qualified majority, and if a qualified majority cannot elect the candidates, the support of 76 deputies will suffice.
Amendments to the constitution require 113 votes. Therefore, without the support of the United National Movement, it will not be accepted by the Parliament.
