Everything is tied to education and scientific development - Irakli Garibashvili

Our main aspiration is to join the large EU family of nations, and that, by definition, means drawing closer to the level of education of the EU member states. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia at the presentation of the 10-Year Development Plan of the Ministry of Education and Science.

“We started working on the 10-year development document, and the draft document is in fact ready. Briefly, I would like to underline the importance of general education and scientific development to our country, our future, and our children. It is common knowledge that, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the system of education, similar to every other area, suffered a heavy blow, nothing short of devastation.

We dealt this system a major blow, while before we were known as one of the best educated nations, and one of the most education societies. Unfortunately, said cataclysms devastated our system of education as a whole, and that, of course, affected the welfare of our population. Everything is tied to education and scientific development. The future of our children and our country, prosperity, and our main values rest on education and educated society. In this context, allow me to emphasize that our main aspiration is to join the large EU family of nations, and that, by definition, means drawing closer to the level of education of the EU member states.

One challenge is access to education, and now we must start enhancing access to quality education. To that end, the Minister has a clear vision. He and his team know exactly how to develop education and science in the country, how to raise the bar in general, in order to make sure that our citizens receive quality education here, in preschool institutions, general schools, and schools of higher education.

Kutaisi International University is a very good example that has teamed up with the Technical University of Munich. It is an unprecedented project, and that is the very idea. As you know, Kutaisi International University, as a partner of the Technical University of Munich, now boasts the same level and quality as European education, and we will continue working in this direction”, - said Irakli Garibashvili.
