CEC released explanation on two identification cards issued for one person

The Central Election Commission released explanation on two identification cards issued for one person.

“We would like to make the clarification on the manipulated information disseminated in social media and media outlets.

Electoral stakeholders actively manipulate in social media, as well as in media outlets, on two identification cards issued for one person. We have verified the information and we would like to clarify that the mentioned citizen is included in the voters’ list only once at the N85 election precinct.

On October 22, the mentioned citizen changed his surname and took his spouse’s surname once he got married. By that time the Public Service Development Agency (PSDA) had already provided updated voters’ data to the CEC.

Accordingly, the data with the new surname will not be reflected in the list for October 30. PSDA released the statement in this regard as well.

The mentioned citizen had the opportunity to cast the vote only once. Disseminating unverified information damages the election process and harms the credibility of the election administration.

Hereby, we would like to clarify one additional issue, that becomes a topic of manipulation in almost every election, namely, it refers to the public version of the voters’ list with photos. We would like to remind you that election subjects and observer organizations are entitled to request the mentioned lists. Accordingly, we call on electoral stakeholders not to mislead society in this regard”, - reads the statement.
