The trial of Mikheil Saakashvili’s case is underway at the Tbilisi City Court on the November 7 episode, although the former president does not attend it.
According to his lawyer Beka Basilaia, the Special Penitentiary Service rebuffed transferring Saakashvili to the courtroom.
“Despite his worsened health condition, he could attend the trial, but the Penitentiary Service is silent. Moreover, they do not have the answer to why they did not notify Saakashvili on court request”, - added Basilaia.
He also demands media outlets be allowed to the trial.
Supporters of the third president and opposition leaders are on the ground. They chant “Misha, Misha”, also express support with trumpets.
Police are mobilized on the spot.
