The legislative package, on the basis of which the State Inspector’s Service will be abolished, will be submitted to the Bureau of the Parliament today, December 27.
According to the project, instead of the State Inspector’s Service, two agencies will be established - the Special Investigation Service and the Personal Data Protection Service.
The Special Investigation Service will have the authority of investigating official crimes. As for the Personal Data Protection Service, it will have the authority of controlling the legality of personal data processing and controlling the activities carried out as part of covert investigations and by the Central Bank for electronic communications identification data.
Besides, the Investigation Service will have an investigative authority expanded - in addition to the crimes currently being investigated by the State Inspector, it will also be empowered to investigate crimes under other relevant articles of the Criminal Code, if relevant crimes are committed by law enforcement representatives, other than an official or a person equal to him/her, as well as a Prosecutor.
The draft amendments were prepared by MPs Rati Ionatamishvili, Givi Mikanadze, Giorgi Amilakhvari, Anri Okhanashvili, David Matikashvili, Aluda Ghudushauri and Guram Macharashvili.
