We are observing the recent epidemic stance with great attention. Monitoring of the infected has commenced, along with the new wave rising as a result of the new strain, Omicron and increased mobility of people during festivities and at winter resorts. It was stated by Prime Minister of Georgia.
He once again urges the population to get vaccinated, wear the facemasks and practice social distancing.
“Let us get vaccinated and let us vaccinate our friends, parents and family members. Let us wear face masks and practice social distancing. It should be our main task. We have vaccines in stock. Medication developed by Pfizer has also been ordered and we continue work on those manufactured by Merck. We will be holding a meeting of the COVID Council and will be additionally discussing the current situation. Uniform wearing of facemasks is essential. It is the means to prevent and protect against COVID-19. Also, we should stay away from places of public gathering. I understand that mobility has rather grown during the festivities. Besides, Omicron strain has led to a significant increase of cases. Nevertheless, we should never forget that we need to get further mobilized and the current situation in Europe should serve as a good lesson to us. For instance, the daily rate of viral spread has exceeded 200 000 cases, while the total number of infected individuals has reached a million in a single day. Therefore, we should get prepared, be mobilized and never get relaxed with an assumption of Omicron being a relatively weak strain with a milder performance when infecting humans. Once again, I wish to urge the population to wear the facemasks, practice social distancing and - what is most important - get vaccinated, as this is the most effective means of protection, safeguarding our loved ones and family members”, - said Irakli Garibashvili.
