Oliver Varhelyi, the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, handed over the European Union membership questionnaire to the Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Monday.
“I handed over the questionnaire on European Union application to Foreign Minister of Georgia Ilia Darchiashvili in Luxembourg today. This is the first step on your European path. We are ready to work with you very fast to deliver the opinion to the European Council as requested”, - tweeted Oliver Varhelyi.
“Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi has handed the questionnaire to Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili. Georgia’s European integration has now been upgraded to another level. We’re looking forward to continuing working in this direction and achieving the ultimate goal - becoming the member of the European Union”, - reads the tweet of Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The questionnaire contains 369 questions, significantly less than ones received by other EU partners. Previously, forms including about 2,000-5,000 questions were received by countries aspiring to join the Union.
