The European Union is the choice of the Georgian people and not just a decision of the Government. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
“This is our civilizational choice. We are very loyal and committed to Europe because we have common goals, principles and values. In 2014, we signed the Association Agreement - this is the main document and guide for full membership.
We have a free trade agreement and a visa-free regime, which are very important achievements for the Georgian people.
We have just submitted a formal application for membership, and the closer we get to the European Union, the more acceptable it will be for us, as we have no other alternative.
As I said, this is the choice of the Georgian people and we will do whatever we can, we will do the maximum in order to get closer to the EU, get closer to the ultimate goal which is full-fledged EU membership”, - said Irakli Garibashvili.
Davos, Switzerland is hosting the World Economic Forum on May 22-26. Prime Minister of Georgia today partook in a panel discussion on Rethinking the EU’s Partnership with its Neighbourhood.
