The President of Georgia congratulated law enforcement officers on Police Day by saying public order and security of citizens in the country rested on police professionals.
Salome Zourabichvili said the professionalism of Georgian police officers had been recognized by Georgia’s international partners, pointing out their cooperation with Europol as an example.
“The order in this country, the security of the citizens, the internal stability [...] rests on you, and this is at a time when there are more and more challenges in the world”, - said the President.
She also spoke about domestic violence figures in the country, stressing “it is shameful that brutal murders of women take place”.
“It is true that some people do not like the word "shameful", but it is shameful to me that today brutal murders of women are committed in front of children in Georgia. I know you will not tolerate this either. This is a big challenge for you too and a lot has been done in this regard. Women already feel much more protected when they go to the police and they know that this will be followed by a restraining order. This is no longer an exception. But we also know that there is a lot more to be done in this direction to prevent this from happening in Georgia. This is our common direction to take every step, to take all measures. Be it the Government, the Parliament or your internal decisions, we must do our best to make domestic violence a thing left in the past, and then we will be a truly modern, civilized, democratic country, and that will be to your merit”, - said Salome Zourabichvili.
