Irakli Garibashvili reviewed the current situation and challenges in the world at a meeting with António Guterres

Georgian Prime Minister met with UN Secretary-General. At the meeting held within the scope of the visit of the Head of Government to New York, the global state of affairs and challenges were discussed.

Irakli Garibashvili thanked António Guterres for his unwavering support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, also emphasizing his appreciation for UN engagement in the process of peaceful conflict resolution.

It was underlined that the Government of Georgia is committed to the policy of peaceful conflict resolution, which seeks to ensure the de-occupation of Georgia’s territories and confidence-building between the communities divided by the occupation line.

The conversation touched on the ongoing war in Ukraine and its impact on the world. According to Irakli Garibashvili, the war in Ukraine has shaken up the entire international security architecture and rules-based order.

The conversation touched on the security environment in the South Caucasus Region. Emphasis was put on the agreement achieved through the efforts of Irakli Garibashvili between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as a result of which Azerbaijan released Armenian POWs, while Armenia, for its part, handed over important maps to Azerbaijan. The Prime Minister expressed readiness to continue acting as a mediator for ensuring peace and stability in the region.
