Non-governmental organizations nominated 3 candidates for the position of Public Defender of Georgia.
“It was necessary to take into account a number of criteria to select the candidates.
It was important that this person had 5 years of experience in human rights activities. He/she should not be a party member, nor should he/she have held any political office or been a member of any party for the past 5 years.
We conducted various procedures, including voting, and 3 candidates were selected. These are people well known to the public and well-known people in the field of protection of human rights.
They are Giorgi Burjanadze, representative of the Partnership for Human Rights organization, Ana Abashidze, and founder of Court Watch and former non-judge member of the Supreme Council of Justice, Nazi Janezashvili”, - said the Head of the Safari organization, Baia Pataraia.
