The Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze and Committee members held a meeting with the Chairs of the Foreign Affairs Committees of the Parliaments of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and discussed the occupation and the EU and NATO integration of Georgia.

“Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are close friends and partner states to Georgia. For the last 30 years, they strongly support our country. At the meeting, we agreed on further intensification of our relations, especially since this period is crucial for us – we are fulfilling the EU recommendations and we need to thoroughly inform all three countries about this process to receive the EU candidate status in 2023. I believe, all three countries will support not only the candidacy of Georgia but the EU and NATO integration as well. We are all interested in the victory of Ukraine and we support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine since we all are aware of the price of Russian aggression”, - said Samkharadze at the joint briefing, where the parties dwelt on the Russian aggression in Ukraine, and its consequences for Georgia and for Europe.

“This visit constitutes a clear message expressing the solidarity of our countries to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia. Georgia enjoys the strong support of the Baltic states and you can count on our support in receiving the candidacy and in all other respective decisions. One of the goals of our visit was to meet the Georgian authorities and respective agencies to hear about the progress in the fulfillment of the EU recommendations and further plans. Elimination of polarization between the political parties is truly important for the achievement of the positive legacy for the country through the intensified efforts”, - added the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Saeima of Latvia, Rihards Kols.

The Chairs of the Foreign Affairs Committees of the Parliaments of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania serve the official visit to Georgia with the invitation of N. Samkharadze.

The 2-day visit included the meetings with the Speaker, as well as the Committee representatives.
