Parliament failed to elect the Ombudsman - none of the 19 candidates were elected

Parliament failed to elect Public Defender - none of the 19 candidates presented to the legislature were elected.

Taking into account the Constitution and legislation of Georgia, the Parliament should have elected the Ombudsman for a term of 6 years, with a majority of not less than three-fifths of the full composition.

This is 90 votes, which no parliamentary party has, and a political agreement was needed.

The candidates nominated for the post of Ombudsman were: Ana Abashidze, Nazi Janezashvili, Nugzar Kokhreidze, Giorgi Burjanadze, Sergo Makharadze, Marika Arevadze, Tinatin Erkvania, Giorgi Mariamidze, Lela Gaprindashvili, Ketevan Chachava, Sofia Demetrashvili, Nikoloz Nikoladze, Aleksandre Kobaidze, Iago Khvichia, Jemal Natelashvili, Levan Kokorashvili, Giorgi Tsobekhia, Maka Mindiashvili and Evgenia Tavadze.
